Investment coins (Bullion) are precious metal coins which are characterized in large quantities, and the speculation on the precious metal value, or serve as an investment object.

They are made from the precious metals gold, silver, platinum and palladium in a high purity and with a slight premium to the metal value of these metals sold, because the minting of coins is more expensive than the casting of ingots. They combine the advantages of ingots and coins, and are therefore Bullionmünzen or shortly Bullion (Coins) called (in English means Bullion bars).

Most investment coins bear, in addition to the images, indicating a par value of a currency, often also have a weight and fineness indication. The currency quoted on the issue date is always significantly lower than the value of the precious metal coin with current market price. The nominal statutory claim, the coin as "officially issued", since only state-authorized Prägestellen are entitled to a monetary claim on the coin shape, which at the same time a definition of the medals, where is. Thus they are "formally" is often also legal tender. They are in general but not part of the statutory payments face value, since otherwise they're below their precious metal value in the currency in circulation would be delivered. When the investment coins, two types differ. Once these are the modern coinages After former Kurantmünzen with their old currency in nominal terms at the time of purchasing power, usually with the old year or nachgeprägt, and on the other hand, the modern Münzneuschöpfungen, which recently also as Bimetallausführungen can be executed, and according to the general decline of purchasing power of all national Currencies now a higher nominal value specification are intended to eventually have as their historic "role models".

Example:

Historical After lettering: 100 Austrian gold crown 1915 = 30.4875 g Feingewicht

Modern neologism: "Wiener Philharmoniker" = 100 € = 31,1035 g Feingewicht (1 ounce)

Both Anlagemünztypen be updated daily to switch courses (at the rate of each metal based) in banking and precious metals trade and are often exempt from VAT. Common modern denominations are 1 / 1, 1 / 2, 1 / 4 and 1 / 10 ounces, while the historic After embossing with their old fine and Rauhgewichten nachgeprägt are.

Gold and silver coins are particularly in times of crisis, a coveted liquidity reserve. Therefore, the practice of many mints edition of annually changing images from the standpoint of pure precious metal plant more of a hindrance, because the visibility and recognition value decreases drastically, while the pure collector of coins, this practice is welcomed. The Prägestellen serve both groups nonetheless, since it only in a high demand or are interested in quantity.

Investors, the case for a contingency provision to plant coins should prefer their images since the first year of issue are unchanged. The gold coins are: Krugerrand, Maple Leaf, Vienna Philharmonic and American Eagle, the Silver Maple Leaf coins (silver) and American Eagle (silver) since 2008 and the Vienna Philharmonic (Silver).
